NEW ELEVATORS IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY AT SEPTA STATION
New, heavy-duty custom elevators are part of a US$36-million upgrade of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) Levittown Station in Tullytown, Pennsylvania, The Intelligencer reports. Joining improvements including expanded parking, the elevators are part of a new overpass that replaces a pedestrian tunnel that was not accessible to people with disabilities. The units include tamper-resistant fixtures, stainless-steel finishes, laminated glass, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant emergency phones and remote security monitoring. SEPTA says the project is “on time and on budget,” and expected to be complete in fall 2018.
EECO MOVES TO LARGER MANUFACTURING FACILITY
Elevator Equipment Corp. (EECO) is moving its Pennsylvania operation from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, to Telford, Pennsylvania, where it is relocating to a new and larger manufacturing facility. The move is "to meet the immediate business demand and increased volume of business," EECO stated. HEALTH CAMPAIGN A SUCCESS FOR ETA-MELCO IN QATAR
Mitsubishi Electric distributor ETA-MELCO conducted a health check and awareness drive in conjunction with Naseem Al Rabeeh Medical Centre in Doha, Qatar, that ETA-MELCO General Manager Haroon Mallick deemed a success, The Peninsula reports. Approximately 180 employees, including field technicians, participated in the program, which included medical-examination reports and printed handouts. Based on employee feedback, Mallick says he plans to continue the campaign annually as part of ETA-MELCO’s employee-welfare initiatives.
WORK UNDERWAY ON SAN DIEGO HIGH-RISE APARTMENTS
Bosa Development, known for its luxury condominium projects in San Diego, has begun work on its first rental project in the city, a high-rise apartment complex that includes a pair of towers, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The downtown project, with 20- and 41-story towers, will house 617 apartment units within its 720,000 sq. ft. It will offer nearly 19,000 sq. ft. of retail and other amenities, including an eighth-floor "sky terrace" with a swimming pool and fitness room. Architect Joseph Wong said the taller tower will rise to about 500 ft. The as-yet-unnamed project is set for opening in 2020.
