GAL NAMES TWO REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENTS
GAL Manufacturing Corp. has appointed two vertical-transportation (VT) industry veterans to regional vice-president positions, responsible for business development and customer service, the company announced. Emery Wilcox has been chosen as Western Region vice president, and Bill Lawson will take the same role for the company’s Midwest Region. Wilcox has more than 35 years’ experience in the VT industry, most recently as a partner at independent contractor Ascent Elevator Services. He previously was president of CemcoLift, Inc.; vice president for NAES Acquisition Corp.; Southwest Regional vice president for thyssenkrupp; and special-projects manager in Eastern Europe for Otis. He holds an MBA from Purdue University. Lawson has 44 years in the industry, joining GAL after serving as Midwest Regional vice president of Oracle Elevator since 2006. He previously worked with Otis as an International Union of Elevator Constructors journeyman mechanic, product-development manager and regional manager. He is a certified QEI licensed in eight states.
KÜBLER INVESTS IN GERMANY, INDIA
The Kübler Group in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany, established an Engineering Solution Center (ESC) in Berlin and increased its presence in India while marking its 10-year anniversary of being there. Bernard Hiller, an engineering manager with more than 20 years' experience in the encoder industry, will lead the ESC. In India, managers and owners from Kübler Germany joined Kübler India Automation Pvt. employees, customers and partners on November 22, 2017, to both celebrate the anniversary and inaugurate a new factory and sales center in Pune.
BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK CONDOMINIUM TOWER COMING ALONG
Construction is underway on Quay Tower, a 28-story condominium building in Brooklyn Bridge Park along the East River in New York City, New York YIMBY reports. A new rendering shows some of the views the development will feature from its vantage point at the southern end of Pier 6, including the Manhattan skyline, New York Harbor, East River and the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. Featuring 126 residences that start at US$1.9 million, Quay Tower was designed by Eran Chen of ODA Architecture and is being developed by RAL Cos., Oliver's Realty Group and Vanke US. Completion is anticipated in summer 2019.
ECS FEATURED ON CHICAGO-AREA TMA PODCAST
ECS Corp., headquartered in Broadview, Illinois, was recently featured on the Technology and Manufacturing Association's (TMA) podcast, on which ECS President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Milefchik and Marketing Manager Cathy Hayat discussed rebuilding and restructuring at the elevator/escalator parts supplier following a change in ownership in 2013. Milefchik and Hayat spoke ECS specialty, robotic laser welding, and manufacturing automation with hosts Kent Gladish of TMA and Tony Demakis of Alliance Specialties and Laser Sales. Milefchik said he was proud to share ECS's story of overcoming adversity with Alliance and TMA, which supports manufacturing in the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding counties in Illinois and Wisconsin.
