KONE WINS ORDER FOR “SUPER HOSPITAL” IN NORTHERN DENMARK

KONE has won an order to provide vertical-transportation equipment to the 170,000-m2 New Aalborg University Hospital (NAUH) in northern Denmark. The order includes 41 MonoSpace® 700 machine-room-less and 18 heavy-duty TranSysTM passenger, freight and service elevators. Expected to open in 2020 near Aalborg University and University College of North Denmark, NAUH will unite two existing hospitals to become the center of the region's healthcare system. Architects and contractors involved are part of the Indigo consortium.

NAESA SETS TWO ECA 101 CLASSES FOR DECEMBER

NAESA International has scheduled two Elevator Code Associate (ECA) 101 Programs for this year. The first class will be held on December 6-7 at the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago O'Hare Airport in Des Plaines, Illinois. The second will be held on December 11-12 at the Sons of Italy Hall in Blauvelt, New York. The classes will deliver a basic familiarization of codes, guides and reference material associated with elevator, escalator and accessibility lifts. No continuing-education units will be given in conjunction with ECA 101. NEII CODE UPDATE: WASHINGTON, COLORADO

The National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII®) recently announced that the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has adopted two new rules for elevators under “Washington Administrative Code 296-96, Safety Regulations and Fees for All Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators, and Other Conveyances.” The updated rules for equipment are based on ASME A17.1-2016/CSA B44-16, and a second set of rules includes updates to the licensing requirements. They took effect on October 1. The adopted rule language, rule forms, a “Concise Explanatory Statement” and more can be viewed on the department's website. On January 1, 2019, Colorado will begin requiring licensed contractors to conduct annual safety tests within 60 days prior to licensed inspectors completing annual inspections. Updates can be found in the quarterly Colorado Conveyance Program bulletin.

LOAN PAVES WAY FOR PAIR OF 50-STORY CONDOS NEAR MIAMI

The Trump Group (no relation to Donald Trump) secured a US$558-million loan in September that will enable construction of a pair of 50-story luxury condominium towers in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, near Miami, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports. Expected to open by late 2020, the towers, Via Acqualina 777 and Via Acqualina 888, are part of The Mansions at Acqualina at 18901 Collins Avenue. They will have approximately 245 residences, including three single-family homes and three penthouses with private pools. There will be 50,000 sq. ft. of amenities with an ice-skating rink, a bowling alley, a childcare center, a fitness center and a movie theater.

KIMPTON BANGKOK TO OPEN IN 2020 IN 39-STORY TOWER

Kimpton Hotel & Restaurants signed a deal with InterContinental Hotels Group on September 24 to open its first Kimpton Hotel in Thailand in 2020 in a 39-story tower within the 8.9-ha Sindhom Village development in central Bangkok, CIM Magazine reports. Located next to Lumpini Park, one of the largest public parks in the city, Kimpton Bangkok will have 349 guest rooms and 124 serviced residences. It will have two restaurants and seven meeting rooms with an overall capacity of approximately 200 people. The property is less than an hour’s drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport and convenient to public transportation.
