CANADA’S SAVARIA AGREES TO PURCHASE COLORADO COMPANY

Savaria Corp., headquartered in Laval, Canada, announced it has agreed to acquire the assets of Visilift, LLC, a manufacturer of panoramic lifts for the residential market headquartered in Eaton, Colorado. The purchase price is US$5 million, with US$3.5 million payable immediately and the remainder upon meeting certain conditions, such as transferring production to Savaria facilities in Brampton, Canada. Savaria Chairman and CEO Marcel Bourassa praised the Visilift team for developing a “unique, round, glass elevator” that will have appeal in Savaria’s North American and Asian markets. Savaria has hired three engineers to further support the initiative.

HUDSON YARDS OFFICE TOWER TOPS OUT AT 51 FLOORS IN NYC

Activity is brisk at Related’s Hudson Yards, in New York City’s (NYC) Midtown West, New York YIMBY reports. The 55 Hudson Yards office tower topped out at 51 stories and 780 ft. on August 22, within one day of a new, 300-m-tall tower being announced. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Related with Oxford Properties Group, 55 Hudson Yards will contain more than 1.2 million sq. ft., including ground-level retail. Several prominent law firms have already secured leases. Completion is anticipated in 2018.

CONSTRUCTION DEATH IN TORONTO ELEVATOR

A man died after an elevator accident at a building under construction in midtown Toronto on August 25,CBC News reported. The man, whose age was not given, was working on the elevator at a jobsite around St. Clair Avenue West and Oriole Road “when it fell on top of him,” police reported. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ontario Ministry of Labour has been notified and will be investigating the incident.

700-PLUS HOMES PLANNED AT MANCHESTER’S ANGEL MEADOW

A Far East Consortium-backed plan for approximately 750 homes within four buildings of up to 40 stories has been approved by the Manchester City Council on a site adjacent to Angel Meadow Park in Manchester, U.K., The Architects' Journal reported. It is part of the larger, mixed-used NOMA neighborhood masterplan. Designed by 5plus Architects, the plan also includes 22- and 17-story towers and a low- or mid-rise building on Mount Street. According to 5plus, the design "gives everything back to the street" and features active, open space between buildings. Construction is expected to start in early 2018.
