OFFICE TOWER PLAN INCLUDES FUTURE TALLEST IN ESTONIA
Developer Kapitel's plan for a trio of office towers in the city center of Tallinn, Estonia, includes a 30-story building that would be the tallest in the country, ERR News reports. Also boasting retail and service space, the Lightpark development would add 80,000 m2 of office space to the market. Construction is slated to start in 2020 at Tiivalaia and Juhkentali streets, opposite the Olümpia hotel.
IN MEMORIAM: BRANDON CLIFFORD
Brandon Clifford, described as a longtime elevator contractor by the publication El Paso Proud in El Paso, Texas, passed away on January 11 while on the job at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, according to the source. An employee of Abell Elevator International, Inc., of Louisville, Kentucky, Clifford was a young husband and father. An outdoorsman who was "passionate about servicing elevators," he is survived by his wife, Chelsey; their daughter, Adelynn; parents, Richard and Vanessa Clifford; and brother, Christopher. Authorities were investigating the incident, in which Clifford was found deceased in the shaft on top of an elevator on the ninth floor. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.
HUGE PROJECT TO TRANSFORM SAN DIEGO WATERFRONT
A US$1.5-billion project will transform 70 acres on San Diego's bayfront into a glittering mixed-use area highlighted by a 500-ft.-tall observation tower, The Architect's Newspaper reports. Seaport San Diego, as the development has been named, will include Seaport Village, a popular dining and shopping complex downtown on San Diego Bay, and will add a marine-focused charter school, a 178,000-sq.-ft. aquarium, and nature and recreational amenities. Visitors to the tower, named "The Spire," will ride glass gondolas up to the observation deck. Renderings show a high-rise building that will include lodging. Developer Protea Waterfront Development, LLC plans to break ground in 2021, and construction is expected to wrap up in 2024 or 2025.
NYC BUILDING NAMED IN HONOR OF DEVELOPER EXECUTIVE
New York YIMBY reports that a TF Cornerstone residential building nearing completion at 606 West 57th Street in New York City (NYC) has been officially named "The Max" in honor of Max Elghanayan, a TF Cornerstone vice president who died this month at the age of 30. The Max, part of a building boom that has transformed the West Side, will house 1,028 apartments, making it NYC's second-largest residential building. In addition to its 961,063 sq. ft. of residential space, The Max will have 37,463 sq. ft. designated commercial. It has parking for 400 vehicles, 558 bicycle spaces and nearby subway access. It was designed by Arquitectonica and offers views of the Hudson River. Leasing is expected to begin within a few months. At TF Cornerstone, Elghanayan oversaw design, working with architects and engineers, according to The Real Deal.
