GUSTAV WOLF ACQUIRES BRUGG’S GEORGIA PRODUCTION SITE

Brugg Lifting North America LLC and Gustav Wolf (USA) Inc. announced a joint agreement for Gustav Wolf to acquire the elevator steel-rope production assets of Brugg in Rome, Georgia, effective April 2. This extends Gustav Wolf's global production capacity into North America as it relocates its North Carolina operation to Rome, which becomes its North American headquarters. Gustav Wolf will be putting a new management team in place and investing in new machinery to increase output. By the end of March, Brugg Wire Rope North America will move its operation that includes customer service, sales, engineering and warehouse to a new location at 3411 Turkey Mountain Road, N.E., Rome, Georgia 30161.

MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC SPIRAL ESCALATORS PART OF KUWAIT ORDER

A pair of Mitsubishi Electric's proprietary spiral escalators are part of a 133-unit order for The Avenues, one of Kuwait's largest shopping centers with more than 800 stores. Joining 69 elevators and 64 escalators, the spiral escalators "lend an atmosphere of architectural elegance and sophistication to the large atrium of the mall's 'Prestige' luxury-shopping district," Mitsubishi Electric said. Each spiral escalator carries up to 27 passengers at a speed of 60 mpm. Operated by Mabanee Co. S.A.K., The Avenues held its soft opening in February.

38-STORY CONDO TOWER WITH PARKING FOR DOWNTOWN L.A.

After five years, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission has approved developer Barry Shy's plans to build a 38-story condominium tower with six levels of podium parking in L.A.'s historic core at Sixth and Main streets, Curbed L.A. reports. Including 467 condos, 21,500 sq. ft. for ground-level retail and 860 parking spaces, the design for SB Omega by architect David Takacs features foliage atop the podium, balconies with perforated metal screens and vertical landscaping. Nearby residents would also use the parking, which was applauded by both city leaders and residents.

STYLISH “CONDOTEL” AT WATERFRONT VIETNAM UNESCO SITE

Aedas has designed the 35-story Alacarte Halong Bay Condotel for a prime, waterfront site on Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage site that is popular with tourists, World Architecture News reports. Curvy, shiny panels on its façade draw inspiration from surrounding sea waves. The main structure sits atop a four-story podium containing hotel rooms, serviced apartments, restaurants, meeting rooms, gyms and pools. Other amenities, such as an infinity pool, sky bar and more restaurants, boast a bird’s-eye view of Ha Long Bay. A construction timeframe was not provided.
